Course Overview
This course is designed to give new and experienced 1911 platform operators a better understanding of the history, operation, and shooting techniques that will assist in him/her in maximizing the reliability and performance of this pistol platform as a defensive firearm.
Course Objectives
At the end of this training module, the student will be able to:
Name the parts of the 1911 pistol
List 2 external safety features of the 1911 pistol
Explain, identify and locate the series 80 internal safety system
Explain the operational cycle of the 1911
Explain and demonstrate a Limited Technical Inspection (LTI)
Field strip and reassemble the 1911 pistol for cleaning.
Recite weapons safety rules for training
Demonstrate loading of the pistol magazine
Demonstrate and perform administrative, lock back and 2 types of tactical reloading
Demonstrate and perform malfunction clearances for FTF, FTE with two hands
Explain and demonstrate proper cleaning and lubrication of the 1911 pistol
Explain the recommended essential cleaning tools and solvents for the 1911 pistol
Perform a field strip of the 1911 for cleaning and maintenance
Perform a reassembly of the 1911 for use after cleaning and maintenance
Perform a function check of the weapon prior to putting the weapon back in service
Explain, demonstrate and perform a proper two hand grip on the 1911
Explain, demonstrate and perform a one hand grip on the 1911 with the dominant hand
Explain, demonstrate and perform a one hand grip on the 1911 with the non dominant hand.
Required Equipment
- 1911 Handgun, in calibers 9mm, 357 SIG, 40 S&W, 45 ACP
- Holster
- Magazine pouch
- 3 magazines
- Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
- Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
- Clothing suitable for training in any weather
- Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
- hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs
